Generally speaking, the focus in World History is on time, whereas in geography, the focus is on space.

AP Human Geography is the study of why things are where they are, and why that matters. Units of study include population & migration; culture; political patterns & processes; agriculture; industry & economic development; and urban patterns & processes. Topics related to every unit include gender, globalization, and sustainability. If you like current events and want to travel as much as possible, this might be the class for you! While the outside of class work commitment is about the same as in world history--an hour per class--more of the information will be brand new to you. If you earn a qualifying score on the AP exam (paid for by Dallas ISD taxpayers), you can earn college credit. AP HuG helps you understand how much bigger and more connected the world is than you might think. That global pandemic that's disrupted the world for over a year, not to mention the lives lost to it? Everything related to the pandemic is geographic.
Pre-AP World History students examine the history and impact of major religious and philosophical traditions. Students analyze the connections between major developments in science and technology and the growth of industrial economies, and they use the process of historical inquiry to research, interpret, and use multiple sources of evidence. The course includes the following major units of study: ancient river valleys; civilizations that were part of the Classical Era, such as the Greek, Roman, Persian, and Chinese empires; Medieval Europe; the Renaissance, Reformation, & Enlightenment; industrialization & imperialism; and global conflicts in an interdependent world. Students will take a district-written exam at the end of each semester. |
